BATON ROUGE, LA – March 19, 2015: The Greater Baton Rouge Industry Alliance, Inc. (GBRIA) announced the winners of its 19th Annual 2015 Contractor Safety Excellence Awards. The awards were presented at a banquet held on March 19, 2015 at the L’auberge Casino Hotel in Baton Rouge, LA. Approximately 620 guests attended the event, which featured guest speaker John Grubbs, keynote speaker and best selling author.
The awards program was established in 1996 under the leadership of Hal G. Ginn, Plant Manager of DSM Copolymer at the time, in an effort to recognize excellent safety performance by contractors working in industrial facilities. Ginn played an instrumental role as the chair of GBRIA in raising safety standards and expectations in industry in the Baton Rouge area, which has spread across the U.S. with other petrochemical and heavy industrial manufacturers.
GBRIA members that nominated their highest performing contractors included Alon Refining USA, Americas Styrenics, Axiall Corporation, BASF, CF Industries, Criterion Catalysts, Eastman Chemical, ExxonMobil Chemicals, Lubricants, Plastics, Polyolefins and Refinery sites, Formosa Plastics, Honeywell’s Baton Rouge and Geismar sites, Ineos Oxide, Lion Copolymer, Marathon Petroleum, Mexichem Fluor, Mosaic Fertilizer, Motiva Enterprises, Occidental Chemical’s Convent and Geismar sites, PCS Nitrogen, Placid Refining, Praxair, Rubicon, Shell Chemical LP, The Dow Chemical Company and Williams Olefins.
The winning contract companies each year have demonstrated a level of safety excellence that includes thousands and millions of hours worked without injury, a commitment by management to educate workers, and a culture where accidents do not happen. Connie Fabre, Executive Director of GBRIA states that “Industry as a whole in our area has truly achieved a safety record that is outstanding. In 2014, our members and their contractors together achieved the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recordable incident rate of 0.5.” These statistics are significantly lower than many other employment sectors.
The 2015 GBRIA Contractor Safety Excellence Awards were presented in five service categories with companies being further subdivided in each category by either Division I, Division II or Division III based on company size.
