Turn-Around Instrument & Electrical Technician Required Qualifications

Instrumentation & Electrical Technicians needed for upcoming turn-around at Dow SCO (Taft) mid to late summer. Read on to learn more about technician’s job duties, skills, educational and certification requirements.

Job Duties

As a Westgate turn-around Instrumentation Technician, you will test, calibrate, disconnect, reconnect, install, repair, and complete in full all record keeping forms associated with turn-around. On a typical day, you will work with voltage and current meters, communicators, current calibrators, temperature calibrators, and pneumatic calibrators, in order to diagnose, loop check and commission all associated instrumentation in scope of work.

Electricians will install, demo, maintenance, trouble shoot all associated electrical  equipment. Be proficient in the testing of electrical service equipment and the use of electrical test equipment such as meggars, voltage & current meters. Read schematics, one line drawings, complete all required documentation and testing records. Install conduit, cable tray and pull wire.

Required Qualification of Turn-Around

Instrumentation & Electrical Technicians

All of these requirements are necessary to be eligible for upcoming position.

Required Education High school diploma, or equivalent; At least an Associate’s degree, a NCCER Certified Plus, or ISA certification is required.
Key Skills Strong Safety foundation, reading P&ID’s and Loop Sheets, Wiring schematics, electrical one line drawings, problem solving, critical and analytical thinking, close listening, clear written and spoken communication, clear judgment and decision making. Excellent in execution of required completion of all job task in a safe manner while following all policies and procedures.
Work Environment Instrumentation & Electrical Technicians will be working in a chemical plant environment. With all trades associated with turn-around work of a unit.

12 hours shifts

Attendance Perfect attendance is expected of daily assigned schedules.

Westgate Instrumentation & Electrical Technicians are required to be extremely precise in following details of assigned work task and the thorough equipment and instrumentation return to operation commissioning to ensure the safe startup of all associated equipment and Instrumentation.

Job Description:

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Maintenance support for packaging line equipment and controls

  • Installation, repairing, and maintenance of packaging equipment
  • Preventive maintenance on equipment and controls
  • Inspecting packaging equipment

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • High School
  • NCCER Certified Plus or approved Instrument/Electrical technology degree
  • PLC training
  • TWIC card.

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Ability to install, wire and maintain relays, photo-eyes, limit switches, solenoid valves, motors, starters, VFD’s, PLC 1/0 modules, analog control devices, and safety circuits.
  • Proficient in reading electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic schematics and PLC ladder logic
  • Multi-crafted with skills including functional electrical power and controls, understanding of PLC’s, and mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to trouble shoot palletizers, stretch wrappers conveyor, and all components of a packaging line
